SZIGETI CONCERTS
FAMOUS VIOLINIST COMING It is gratifying to note that the announcement of Josef Szigeti’s concerts here on October 7, 12, 13, and 14 is creating a stir among music-lovers, and also among the musically untutored, “ who always react to a great and pleasurable human experience,” as one Australian paper has put it lately. Szigeti is said to appeal to every section of the audience, to those who thrill to monumental works like the Beethoven concerto, the Bach chaconne, Mozart concerto, and to those who are looking to a concert for the emotional experience it gives them. The emotions expressed in the great 1 Kreutzer Sonata ’ by Beethoven, in the wistful and savage Slavonic and Hungarian dances and tunes, the ‘ Devil's Trill ’ sonata are universal, and not confined to the trained music-lover only. Reports from Australia show Szigeti’s generosity with encores, and that they constitute a miniature recital at the end of each concert. Prince MagalofT. the young Russian pianist, has been praised as an outstanding feature of these concerts.
