SUBURBAN SHOPS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —1 think that “Housewife” speaks truly when she asks: Are we in the suburbs loyal to our shopkeepers It is quite true that hundreds of us living in the suburbs must take a run into town for our favourite bacon, which a certain shop keeps, or some knitting needles one has seen advertised ; and various commodities which we could buy just as cheaply nearer home, and also save car fare. There are various bodies, too, in each suburb who could be instrumental in promoting trade, and therefore help to keep up the spirits of the depressed shop assistants and employers, i refer to school committees, lodges, etc., who, instead of going to town to purchase presents for retiring teachers and social functions, would by going to suburban shops be quite well suited. So wake lip suburbanites, and patronise suburban shops.—l am, etc., Oxe of the Crowd. September 27.
