AT GENEVA
PROCEEDINGS IN THE ASSEMBLY EMPIRE REPRESENTATIVES MNFER Press Association—By Tclegripb —Cofyrifkk, LONDON, September 26. (Received September 27, at 2 p.m.)’ A Geneva' correspondent states t “ Recognising the urgent need for reducing preliminaries, the Assembly de* cided to curtail the plenary meeting* as much as possible in order to allow • the committees to continence work to* morrow morning. The Assembly will meet in the afternoon. Mr W. Hughes will deliver the first which was partially prepared in .con-* saltation with Air Bruce. Thus, while Air Hughes makes his first bow on the Geneva stage as the temporary month* piece of the Australian Government, the individuality of his style may ba cramped by the responsibility of reducing the opportunity of ventilating his strong views on the conduct of th* League, of which Air Hughes person* ally makes no secret. The Australian and New Zealand delegates to-night attended a meeting of the Empire representatives under tlie chairmanship of Sir John SimoDg and informally discussed the Assembly programme; but it is understood that no attempt has yet been made to secure a united front on the vital questions facing the League—namely, the Sino-Japanese conflict, disarmament, the German position, and the League , budget.
