HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES [Per Unitid Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 29, The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. Mr Walter Nash (Hutt) presented several largely-signed petitions asking that children under six should not be excluded from State schools.
Mr R. A. Wright (Wellington Suburbs) asked the Postmaster-General (Hon. A. Hamilton) if he would arrange with tho British Post Office authorities with a view to permitting acceptance of collect week-end cablegrams between England and New Zealand.—Mr Hamilton said the question had' been considered several times at International Telegraph Conferences, but each time the decision had been against the adoption of such an arrangement. He pointed out that upon receipt at the office of destination weekend cable messages were treated as letters and were posted to the addressees. Any proposal to collect transmission charges from the addressees would be accompanied by difficulties which would render such a course impracticable. . Tho National Expenditure Adjustment Bill passed its third reading by 45-28 votes. The debate is elsewhere reported. The House rose at 5.50 p.m. till 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mr Forbes stated that the Trade Agreement Bill would be taken on Tuesday.
