POPULAR COMEDIAN RETURNING

GENE GERHARD IN NEW FARCE ‘ Out of the Blue,’ which commences at the St. James Theatre on Friday, is a pleasant British comedy of the same type as ‘My Wife’s Family,’ showing Gene Gerrard in another laughable role. ‘ Out of the Blue ’ is taken from the stage musical comedy ‘ Little Tommy Tucker,’ and although not strictly a musical comedy, is a comedy with songs interpolated, which is the next best thing. With Gene Gerrard to direct this picture as well as take the leading male role, it is bound to meet with popular approval on the comedy side. He is “ Uncle Bartholomew,” an announcer in a London station, but, holidaying in the country, he becomes engaged to Angela Tucker (Kay Hammond), while falling in love with her sister Tommy (Jessie Mathews), who is already deeply in love with him, by wireless. ~ In despair (or in a rage), “Tommy accepts the offer of a cabaret owner at Biarritz to sing and dance for him, but the other characters follow her across to the Continent, where a lot of humorous crossplay takes place. Tommy in the end getting her man, Bill CoverMiss Mathews sings nicely and Gene renders a duet with her; also other songs which will he liked by the public.
