METHODIST CONFERENCE

.. CORDIAL GREETING FROM ANGLICANS I [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, February 25. Recommendations of the Contingent Fund Committee that economies should be exercised in administration and travelling were adopted by the Methodist Conference to-day. The economies will save the communion approximately £6OO a year and will reduce the levies on circuits from 1\ to 6 per cent. A letter was received from Bisnop West-Watson and the Dean and Chapter of Christchurch conveying to the conference the cordial greetings of the Anglican Church in the diocese and good wishes for the success of the Methodist Church in its work for the extension of the Kingdom of God in New Zealand. The president said that this courteous gesture of good-will was greatly appreciated. . , Following the presentation of the report on misionary work in the Solomon Group, it was decided that owing to the serious financial position of the Missionary Society, the conference regrets that it is not possible to increase the allocation for 1932 beyond the pre-allocation of £11,500 and requires that the expenditure for the year be kept within that amount, A suggstion that the size of the conference should be reduced in future years with the object of expediting the business and economising in expense was discussed at length. The proposal was that representation should be on a district basis rather than on a circuit basis. The motion was rejected.
