BURNSIDE STOCK SALES
BEEF CHEAPER THAN LAST WEEK Fat Cattle.—Numbering about 260, the fat cattle entry included several trucks of extra prime heavy bullocks and a fair number of nice light-weights. The cows and heifers were not such a good class as last week; they were mostly aged and unfinished. The chief consignments were from Mr Beatie, “ Titiroa,” who got up to £11; Mr Scott, Gore, whose lot realised up to £l2; and Mr Grant, Outram, who secured £lO 15s. The balance of the bullocks sold from £9 to £lO. Heifers sold up to £B, and cows from £l4-10s to £6. There was a drop of fully 30s a head on heavy bullocks and 20s on light-weights compared with last week’s extreme prices. Heavy-weights brought 24s 1001 b, prime light bullocks 26s 6d, heifers 22s 6d, and cows 17s 6d to 18s. Fat Sheep.—Approximately 1,650 sheep were in the yarding, which comprised principally owes. Only three consignments of prime wethers were offered, and sold at an advance of Is 6d a head on last week. Extra prime ewes and young ewes were in keen demand, selling from 15s to 18s 9d.' Aged ewes were worth from 9s to 10s. Prime Wethers brought up to 255, and medium weights from 19s to 225, working out at 3|d lb for prime wethers, and 2d to 2|d lb for the ewes. Prices: Heavy wethers, 22s to 255; medium, 18s to 20s 3d; light, 12s 6d to 16s; extra heavy ewes, 18s 9d; heavy, 14s 6d to 17s 3d; medium, 10s 6d to 12s; light, 7s 6d to 9s 6d. Store Cattle.—A draft of two and three-year-old bullocks in the store pens sold from £5 10s to £5. The others in the yarding were chiefly old cows, which sold from 20s to £4. Fat Lambs.—A small yarding of about 500 fat lambs was of good allround quality, and, as there were three export buyers in attendance, it was quite expected that the prices would keep up to those ruling at the previous sale.
Pigs—There was rather a dull sale for pigs at prices which altered but slightly from those gained last week. Baconers were worth from 43d to 5d lb, and porkers Gd lh*
