(Received January 13, at 11.30 a.m.) At the wool sales 6,853 bales wore offered, comprising 2,489 from New South Wales, 1,134 from Queensland, 702 from Victoria, sixty-six , from Western Australia, ninety-eight from Tasmania, and 2,364 from New Zealand. There was, a good representative selection and a large attendance, with good competition. Yorkshire and Germany were operating freely, but France sparingly. Prices, compared with December closing rates, were Merinos, good, par to 5 per cent higher; top-making sorts, fully firm; cross-breds fine, 5 per cent, higher; medium and low, firm and unchanged.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Ltd. has received the following cablegram from their London house, under date 12th instant: i—There was 'a good attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home and German buyers being fairly active, and prices as compared with the close of preceding series ruled in sellers’ favour for good greasy merino and fine greasy cross-bred; otherwise market firm. The opening catalogues were fairly representative. Messrs Dalgety and Company Limited advise having received the following cablegram from their head office, London, dated 12th inst.“ The wool sales 'opened active. Ltd. have received the following wool market cablegram from their London agents, Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Elder Ltd., dated the 12th inst.:— Sales have opened firm, competition brisk; Yorkshire principal buyers, and buying, freely.
