RETURNED SOLDIERS' AFFAIRS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE A meeting of tho executive of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association was held in the club rooms last evening, when Mr W. F. _ Forrester (president) occupied the chair. _ Sixteen new members, including one honorary member, were nominated and approved. The Secretary reported that the membership of the association now totalled 1,736, and the Christchurch membership 1,745, The Chairman reported that the details for the association’s Christmas gift scheme, to be carried out on Thursday, had been completed, and about 720 returned men would receive a gift in the association’s social hall between 9.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. on that day. It was reported that tho work at Chisholm Park had finished. Returned soldiers had been engaged on this work for several weeks, and last week 104 men had been employed there. The total expenditure for the work up to the present had been £2,375. It was resolved that the sum of £4O be advanced to the ReturnecFSoldiers’ Choir with which to purchase music., The Secretary reported that at a recent meeting of the Returned Soldiers’ Rifle Club its position had been outlined. The club wished to purchase a new rifle and a telescope, and he had been requested to ask if the executive would give assistance in the form of a contribution. —The matter was deferred pending further inquiries. In recognition of the services rendered by Mr H. L. Paterson, the association’s Father Christmas for the children, the Chairman presented him with a photograph of the little girls.
