AUCKLAND MEETING

[Per United Press Association."! AUCKLAND, December 22. There was a fair amount of interesting work at Ellerslio this morning, when tho semi-final gallops for the Auckland meeting took place on the course proper, tho poles being about 40ft out from the rails. The going was excellent, and several smart gallops were recorded among tho cup candidates. Taneriri, Compris, Gay Crest, and Admiral Drake all performed excellently, while Golden Wings, Lady Quex, and Llanore also shaped well. The best efforts registered by the two-year-olds were those of Lack, Midinette, and Tout Lemond. Several horses were schooled over tho hurdles in the centre, the best displays being given by Simeon and Russet Moor. Before breakfast .laloux worked over a round, being assisted over the last seven furlongs by Azalea. They finished together, the time for the round being 2min 8 4-ssec, the last seven taking Imin 34 4-ssec. Jaloux worked lazily, but Azalea impressed by her effort. Tarporley was going better than Desert Star over six furlongs in Imin 19 4-ssec. Tarporley has been working well. Hampton Park, Grand Spirit, Golden Spahi, and Vilma were associated over six furlongs. The firstnamed pair finished several lengths in front in Imin 19 l-ssec, the others taking Imin 21 l-ssec. Dunraven had. a pull in the weights. Taneriri had Sir Mond as a companion over a mile and a-quar-ter in 2min 17 2-ssec, the last six furlongs being run in Imin 23 2-sseo on terms._ Taneriri pleased. A good effort was registered by Pomp, who finished-a shade in front of Green Linnet over six furlongs in Imin 18 2-ssec. Both worked impressively. Lady Quex went six furlongs in Imin 20 2-ssec; and Midinette, Tout le Mond, and Princess Bell five furlongs in Imin ssec., All pleased. Compris, Gay Crest, and Peter Jackson went a round in 2min 6 2-ssec, tho final seven in Imin 32 3-ssec. and the last half-mile in 52 2-ssec. Gay Crest was in charge 100yds from the post, but Compris drew up to him and finished about half a length in front. Peter Jackson, who was several lengths away, is not a good track worker. Great Star alone went a similar distance in 2min 8 3-ssec, and is in first-class fettle. The best effort over five furlongs was given by Lack, Imin 4 4-ssec. Golden Wings alone went a round in 2min 5 l-ssec, and Beacon Fire six furlongs in Imin 18 4-ssee. He has been working well.
