TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22.(Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.J] DRUNKENNESS. A statutory first offender, William Borlase, was fined 12s 6d, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE. James Williamson Wallace was' charged with obtaining credit at Timaru to the extent of £4 4s by falsely representing that he was a mining engineer at Nightcaps. On the application of Deteciivesergeant Nuttall, who said there would be further charges preferred against the accused, a remand till December, 30 was granted. DISORDERLY BEHAVIOUR. A plea of not guilty was entered by, Edward M'Caffrey, who was charged with behaving in a disorderly manner in a public place. Constable Ogalvie said that at 2.40 this morning the defendant was warned for making a noise. At 3 o’clock witness heard someone playing a mouthorgan. He went along Princes street* and, on reaching Dowling street, saw, the defendant, who was singing. The defendant had been drinking, butf was not drunk. The Magistrate said the case was nob a bad one of its kind, and the defendant would be convicted to come up for sentence if called on within three months on condition that he took out a prohibition order. CONSTABLE INJURED.

Emmett James Hussey was charged with using indecent language in a public place, and with assaulting Constable Simpson while in the execution of has duty. Senior-sergeant Cameron, in asking for a remand till December 30, said it was alleged that both Hussey and his wife attacked with beer, bottles, and his head and face were badly cut.
