SERVICE OF SONG
The choir of the Green Island Presbyterian Church presented its annual Christmas service last evening to _ a large congregation. The congregation joined heartily in the singing of the familiar Christmas hymns, which, with, the brief but thoughtful address by the - minister of. the church, the Rev. Mr Dunn, created the requisite atmosphere for the choral portion of the, service which followed. The singing by the choir of ‘ The Messiah ’ choruses showed careful preparation, resulting in The faithful portrayal of their various moods, from the reverential awe as depicted in ‘ Behold the Lamb of God ’ to, the triumphal pecan of praise in the ‘ Hallelujah Chorus.’ Carols were interspersed with the heavier choruses and added to the seasonal nature of the service. The old familiar ‘ Adeste Fidelis ’ was also suug very effectively, by the choir and a quartette consisting of Misses Adam and Nelson and Messrs M'Clelland and M'Cready, while the'trio from ‘Elijah',’ ‘Lift Thine Eyes,’ sung by Mrs Thomson and the Misses Adam and Nelson, added greatly to the beauty of the service. Mrs George Scott’s contralto voice wag beard in the familiar ‘ Messiah ’ solo, ‘ He Shall Feed His Flock,’ and wag listened to with rapt attention. Thg remaining soloist was Mr C. C. Scott, who sang the tenor solo, ‘ Comfort Ye,’ with exquisite feeling, and later during the sendee the solo, ‘ Give Thanks and Sing.’ The organist of the'church, Misg A. M. George, presided at the organ, and her sympathetic accqmpanimentg and her playing of the service generally. ' added greatly to the dignity of the service. ,
