MISSING LAUNCH

SEARCH BY TUG DUNEDIN QUESTION OF INSURANCE A question respecting the insurance on the tug Dunedin when she went to sea recently to search for the missing fisherman was asked by Mr F. E. Tyson at the meeting of the Harbour Board last night. It was reported that a letter had been received from the Otago Fishermen’s Society thanking the board for its action in sending the tug to search for the missing fishing launch. Mr Tyson asked what was done in connection with insurance. The Chairman said the company had debited the board with £lB. It had been found the board could not get out of that payment according to the agreement. The insurance company had been written to asking if it could arrange to waive the extra premium altogether or substitute a nominal charge for trips of the kind, which were undertaken for humanitarian motives and at the request of the general public. Mr Tyson said that the matter had to be referred to London by the company. That was one of the drawbacks of insuring with a company that had to refer such a matter to London. It was reported that a reply had been received from the company stating that it had written to its London office requesting that the waiving of the extra premium and the substitution of a nominal premium be put before the underwriters.
