MUNICIPAL AFFAIRS.
TO THIS EDITOR. Sir,—ln the council reports which como up for consideration at to-night 9 meeting there is one item which the ratepayers of this city seem to have allowed to pass without comment. Perhaps wo are all too busy with political events. However, I wish to make my protest against the granting of three months’ leave on full pay to the retiring city cashier. At the present time we are told that wo must economise and men arc being dismissed; others receive a cut in wages of 10s, and some single men in the council’s employ are only working half-time. On the top of
all tills tho council can hand over three months’ salary to an official who one can honestly say has drawn a handsome salary for many years. X sincerely hope that Crs Mitchell and Munro, who seem to bo tho only live men, along with our worthy mayor, will voice their opinion without going into committee on this matter. —X am, etc., Ratepayer Nq. 1.
