PINTO BEATS ALLEY WINNER RECEIVES £250. [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON. Noveniher 23. In two straight falls obtained in the fourth and fifth rounds, Stanley Pinto (14st 31b) defeated Tom Alley (13st 61b) in the final of the New Zealand heavy-weight wrestling championship before a large audience in the Town Half to-night. Alley nearly had his man with his famous crucifix hold in the third round, but Pinto spun like a Catherine wheel completely around the ring and finally escaped by struggling through the ropes. In the fourth round Pinto took the aggressive, and applying headlocks dumped his man heavily twice, the second time securing a fall with a body press. It was evident that Alley was groggy as ho came out for the fifth round, and Pinto, with fierce headlocks, soon subdued his man, securing a second fall soon after the round commenced. The winner received £250 and the loser £IOO. Pinto and Walker will meet here in a champion of champions match next Monday night. WALKER V. MEESKE On Thursday night at the Town Hall tho biggest wrestling contest yet staged in Dunedin will be held, when George Walker, the British Empire champion, will meet Billy Meeske, tho Australian champion. This is a return bout, the pair having already met in Auckland in a strenuous bout with an unsatisfactory ending, in which Walker was given the decision over Meeske by a fall and a penajty fall against a fall. Meeske gained tho first fall in the second round with a ’ step over toe hold. Walker equalised in the fifth round with a too .hold. In the sixth round Walker attempted to lift Meeske and dump him. Tho latter held on to the ropes, with the result that the referee gave Walker a penalty fall, which v ; an unsatisfactory ending. Up to this stage Meeske was well ahead on points, and the result of this contest should make Thursday’s match more attractive than ever, as Meeske will be anxious to reverse last week’s decision. Tho main bout will bo preceded by four amateur preliminaries which have been arranged between tho finalists of the recent amateur championships. Tho box plan lor reserves is now open, there being no charge for booking.
