2D PER TIN OR PLUG [Pee United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 6, With some exceptions for plug tobacco, all brands of pipe tobacco in Wellington will be increased in prico as from to-morrow. The president of the Wellington Tobacconists’ Association, in making tho announcement, said the manufacturers had passed on the Is 6d to Is 7d, which covered the additional laid down costs, and the discount to retailers. The increased price is 2d per tin or two-ounce plug. Li some instance the plug increase is not to be passed on, the retailers carrying it. Loose tobacco will be advanced Id to 2d. New. Zealand tobaccos go up 2d and Id a tin. A corresponding advance in tobacco prices has been made already in Dunedin by the leading tobacconists and big grocers, the new scale of prices having become effective as from fast Tuesday.; Some of the smaller however, have no f yet charged their customers the increased prices. A tobacconist said an association was in existence in New Zealand, but it was not operating fully, as the members were not agreeable to working together. The tobacconists, however, were carrying a part of the increased duty on many brands instead of passing the full advance on to the public.
