CITY RATEPAYERS

MEETING Of ASSOCIATION Last night’s meeting of the Dunedin Ratepayers’ Association was attended by the following Messrs W. F. Forrester (president), T. Scott, W. Paterson, W. G- Nortli, A. J. Sullivan, and, R. Duncan. Tho continued neglect of Sunhurv street, Anderson's Bay, was a subject of complaint from Mr John Black, who, wrote that, although ho had been a resident for twelve years in the street, there was no kerbing or channelling or a footpath worthy of tho name. The roadway was no bettor. Attention to the condition of tho pavements in lower Cranston street and Snnbury street was also drawn by a member of tbe association. The rates collected from property owners in_ the two streets amounted to a considerable sum, and the residents wore entitled to more serviceable street provisions. The Association decided to ask tho town clerk and the city engineer to givo the complaints their favourable consideration. That the carrier stand iu Dowling street constituted a serious menace to vehicular and . pedestrian traffic was stated in a letter from Mr W. D. G. Hartley, who considered that the authorities should bo asked to remove the stand. Tho association decided to ask _ the City Council to remove the carriers’ stand to the old parking area further down Dowling street, in order that the top of the street bo left clear for traffic.

It was reported by the secretary (Mr C. H. Wing) that tho City Council had carried out the improvements to Glen avenue, advocated at the last mooting of the association. After bearing a statement by the secretary, the executive decided to make further representations to the Tramwavs Committee to run the Mailer street bus down Carnarvon street instead of Rosoberry street, as at present. Several members complained that Stafford street, above Maitland street, was in a most unsatisfactory _ condition, mid tbe association decided to bring the matter before the city engineer. It was decided to enter a strong protest against the fencing off of any ground in the Town Belt, the decision arising from a discussion on the fencing of the Asylum Ground.
