OBITUARY

MR G. R. STORY Mr George Robert Story who was buried in Anderson’s Bay Cemetery yesterday, was an outstanding figure—a man of unusual vitality and energy, capable of getting through a tremendous, amount of work that would appal many, such as sitting up all night at his office when occasion for that task arose. He was born in Victoria, and made his name in business at Melbourne, conducting with his brother the firm of White ana Company, rabbit , exporters. He was also on the Melboifrna Board of Works. He came to Dunedin in 1899 and under the name of White and Company set up as an exporter of frozen rabbits in a very large way. He also exported rabhitskins, wool, sheepskins, oppossum skins, ’and tallow* He designed and built the premises known as Temple Court in Stuart street. Ho established and conducted the Otago Preserving Works. He had a freezing works in Stuart street, another at Waipiata,. and a third at Alexandra'. He bought the old Dunedin Post Ofißco building and took it to pieces. Ho was chairman of various committees interested in exports. In 1901, a photo was , taken “The Four Rabbit Kings”— Messrs Story, Sullivan, Tonkin, and * Black. Mr R. S. Black is the solo survivor. Mr Story leaves a widow and five daughters—Mrs Hopper, Mrs Parker, Mrs Sinclair, and two Miss Storys. •

MR T. W. SLATER

From Auckland it is announced that' Mr Thomas W. Slater died there on December 13. He will he well remembered in Dunedin as a. very useful member of several of our musical societies. He sat with the first, tenors of the Choral Society, and was in tho Royal. Male Choir ranks from 1911 to 1924, when ho went to the north. One of his sons is Captain H. W. Slater, who was for many years • until 1924 a master at the Otago Boys’ High School and is now teaching at Master ton. Another son is Dr A. N. Slater, of Wellington. The deceased was much respected for his personal worth and his musical ability. He recently underwent a surgical operation at Auckland and did not recover
