In the. previous Government be was, Minister for War. Joseph Pilsudski was born in Polish Lithuania sixty years ago, being then under the Hus-' sian yoke. Bom' a Pole, he was debarred from the day of his birth from being recognised as a, Pole, and from using his mother tongue. Being a patriot, ( he was ultimately exiled to Siberia by the Tsar’s ukase, where he spent, five years. He escaped from banishment, and in 1914 took up arms, against Russia, but when the Russian revolution saw his pid enemy out of the way he turned against Germany, be-, ing ultimately held prisoner for some) time. He was released after the German revolution. On the ruins of the Russian, ■ Prussian, and Austrian Empires he resurrected a freo Poland. Pilsudski was created Marsha] of the, Polish armies which ho had' himself created, and he further created a Polish Government and the first Legislative Parliament. Therefore the nation bestowed on him the title-of _ “ The Chief of Polish State,” which title nobody hadever held before,; Now Pilsudski is compared in his native State to Sobieski, the Polish King . and defender of Vienna. His name in Poland to-day is,the same as Joan d’Arc’s was of’old in'France.]
