ST. CLAIR SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The monthly meeting of the St. Clah? School Committee was held on Wednesday evening, when there were present Messrs Fastier (in the chair), Calvert, Halliday, Kind ley, Pritchard, Priest, Ritchie, Warwick, and Rhodes. The insurance of £3OO, divided as-per arrangement over* the three buildings, was approved. The head master reported that the average roll for October was 628, and the average attendance 594. During the month a preliminary meeting to form a lawn tennis club had been held. The second round of.-the cricket competition had started this week, and both the A team and the B team had secured wins.. The Visiting Committee reported that it had found everything in good order. The rustic fence still wanted slight- attention, and the head master was also asked to request Mr Odowski to fis it while at' the school. Applications 'for the use of the hall for a lawn _ tennis club dance and-church entertainment respectively were granted. A complaint had been made as to the use, of pets by the school children, and after it was pointed out that the courts gave every facility and help to encourage the children in the game it was finally decided to, write .to. the "lawn tennis club asking the c!uh captain to see the head master artd discuss the position in order to assure that ■ co-operation would eventuate; . An : application, by. the St. Clair Presbyterian Bible class for the use of the courts. was fully, discussed. It was felt generally that everything > should be done to encourage lawn tennis ‘at the school, and it was decided that the. matter be deferred and that a special meeting of the committee be called. It was resolved that Mr Holler, of -Massey -avenue, bo thanked for hih offer to give a -prize for the best-girl athlete iu ■ the school, and that this offer be accepted. It was resolved that the matter of school prizes be kit in the hands of Mr CoiittSi,
