RENOWNED KUBELIK

$ FIRST CONCERT ON SATURDAY Tho world’s greatest living violinist, Jan Kubelik, will bring inspiration and happiness to music lovers in Dunedin when ho gives bis opening concert in the Town Hall on Saturday night. Already the booking is wonderful, and he is assured of a groat reception from a capacity house. It is regrettable that only two concerts can be given in Dunedin, but tho world engagements of tho artist will not permit of any extra, as immediately after his second concert, which takes place next Wednesday, Kubelik leaves for Wellington, where he is duo to appear with the Philharmonic Orchestra in Tschaikowsky’s ‘Concerto.’ Fresh from a world tour, during which unprecedented enthusiasm was tho keynote of all his public appearances, the eminent peer of violinistic art has created a perfect furore among genuine musical people. Playing on his famous Stradivarius, “ The Emperor,” which is valued at £25,000 (an exquisite instrument, beloved by its owner), Kubelik has thrilled and charmed with his perfect technique, and in London a huge audience of 7.000 sat enthralled by Ins mastery of an instrument that has a universal appeal. Five hundred extra chairs were installed at the Wellington Town Hall for the final recital by tho great master, but there were not enough, and many had to he turned away, while others stood so that tho famous man might not be missed. He was accoi'ded a tumultuous farewell. Last Saturday night in Christchurch 400 seats had to be provided on the stage by the directors of tho season, and the audience was tho largest over seen in the new Theatre Royal. Every seat in the theatre was sold half an hour before the concert commenced, which is a record for any visiting violinist. In response to a great number of requests Jan Kubelik will include as an encore next Saturday night Schubert's ‘ Ave Maria.’
