MONTHLY MEETING The Mayor (Mr W. E. M'Loan) presided sit tho monthly meeting of tho Mosgiel Borough Council licld last night. CORRESPONDENCE. The Minister in charge of the Valuation Department, replying to the council’s letter in regard to tho repeal of section 50 of the Valuation of Land Act, 1925, and for tho substitution of provision for periodic revaluations, stated that the matter was being inquired into.—Received. Tho Acting Prime Minister forwarded a form to ho observed throughout the dominion for the observation of Armistice Day, November 11.—Same observance as last year agreed to. Tho District Highway Council, Dunedin, forwarded a circular letter regarding the preparation of claims for highway subsidy.—Referred to the clerk to attend to. 'The Main Highways Board notified that satisfactory specifications had been received from tho borough in regard to tar scaling Gordon road highway.—Received. The Commissioner of Transport submitted a draft copy of the new motor drivers’ regulations, to conic into force next year, and, stated that it was hoped to have the co-operation of all in the formulation and enforcement of regulations which would bo workable, not unduly restrictive, and yet designed for the purpose of ensuring that motor traffic accidents would be reduced to a minimum. Ho stated that any suggestions or comments which the council was able to offer would be appreciated and carefully considered.—-Referred to motor owners. The Rector, Holy Cross College, made application for permission for tho students of the college to use the recreation ground for football during the winter of 1931, on tho days and at the hours allowed by tho borough council in recent years, and stated that they wo ’ gladly carry out any instructions or conditions of the council in tho mat ter of wet weather, and guarantee that the students would not use tho ground when'it was contrary to tho council’s wishes!—Referred to Reserves Committee. REPORTS. The Finance Committee reported that tho receipts for tho past month had been £1,223 (is 9d, and recommended payment of accounts totalling £347 14s sd. \doptcd. The General Committee reported that the application of the Taieri Blanket Society for tho free use of tho main hall on Wednesday, December 3. tor tho purpose of an afternoon sale had been granted conditional upon tho had being left in good condition after die sale.—Adopteu. The Reserves Committee reported regarding tho application for Taieri Cricket Club to lay down a concrete practice pitch in tho recreation ground. —This application had been granted subject to tho position being approved by tbo chairman of the committee. Tho Works Committee detailed the work of the month, and reported that Arhur Gibson’s application for water supply, Duke’s road, had been granted upon the usual terms. Mrs Sparks’s application for sower extension, Gordon road, and signed agreement in connection therewith had been received and tho work approved of. A petition from residents in Duke street—this matter had been referred to the next council meeting, in order that the inspector might report upon tho matter. —Report adopted, GENERAL. Tenders were dealt with for 200yds of gravel, and Mr Rutlivcn’s tenders (3s 3d, 3s (id, and 3s 3d) were accepted.
