CHORAL SOCIETY’S CONCERT.

TO THJ£ SUITOR. Sir, —I attended the Choral Society’s concert last night, looking forward to an evening’s enjoyment, but was very disgusted to find that the organ and orchestra quite drowned the singing of the choir.' One could easily have imagined lie was at an orchestral concert, and I am sure the members of the Choral Society must have felt that they had only wasted their time in so assiduously practising the ‘ To Dernn ’ and the epilogue in ‘ The Banner of St. George.’ All the expression, attention to detail, etc., went by the board, as the voices could not get above the din of organ and brass. I would like to know whence the idea emanated to put on a double attack. A choral member remarked to me that what with the orchestra in front and the organ at the rear they could not hear their own voices. . One would have thought the organist would'have shown a little mercy when he was only an accompanist, as he got his chance—and a good one—on tbe dynamics in bis solo, ‘ Finlandia.’ How the choir managed to last out «I cannot imagine. 1 was delighted that wo had an opportunity in the unaccompanied part songs of hearing what the choir really could do. The singing of these songs “was a joy apart. 1 remember at one concert the orchestra was confined to a select few, a lot of brass being cut out, and the effect was lovely. Could not that be done always, so that the choir could have a chance?—l am. etc., Fortissimo. November 6.
