GIRL WHO WAS A BOY
PROBLEM OF A STOCKHOLM MOTHER The amusing .story of how a girl turned out to bo :i hoy but had to apply to tho King for permission to belong to the stronger sex is told by a Swedish paper. Some weeks ago a young wife had a child in a Stockholm hospital, and the baby was registered ns a girl. Shortly before leaving the hospital the mother wanted to have her girl baptised, and a clergyman was called in who christened the child with t)ic feminine names Gurli Ingegerd. which were duly entered in the church register. On returning home, however, tho parents discovered that Gurli Ingegerd was a boy, and requested tho vicar to have tho baby rcchristcncd by tho masculine names of Gunnar Eugene. The vicar, however, was unable to alter the parish register, and advised the parents to apply to the King. So in the end the matter was brought before tho King’s Council, and, without discussion, a writ was drafted declaring that tho much-debated child should bo entitled to belong to tbo male sex and to carry tho names Gunnar Eugene.—■ ‘ Observer.’
