RUGBY FOOTBALL

JUSTICE DEPARTMENT BEATS PUBLIC TRUST In tho annual Public Service Rugby football match, played at the Caledonian ground yesterday, tho Justice and Police Departments succeeded in wiping off last year's defeat at tho hands of tho Public Trust Department. The game was played under ideal conditions, and the ground was in good order. The Justice team kicked off against a slight breeze,_ which in no way hindered their initial outburst. After about fifteen minutes’ solid forward play the ball passed through tho backs to Thomson ‘(wine), who completed a bright movement by beating tho opposition in a great dash along the line and scoring at tho corner. Tho kick at goal failed. Shortly after the kick-off the Justice forwards rushed play to the Trust lino, where, after some solid forward play, Wells (forward) threw himself over for a good try. Again the try was not converted, and the spell ended: Justice 0, Trust nil. In the second spell tho Justice forwards visibly faded, and just managed to hold tho trust in check. However, about ten minutes before time Raeo concluded a bright Trust movement by scoring a well-earned try near the posts. The. attempt to convert was unsuccessful. There was no further score, and a fast, interesting game ended Justice and Police 6, Public Trust 3. For the winners Thomson, Rutland, and Adams were outstanding in the backs, who all played a solid game. In the forwards Wells, Smyth, and Turgis were never absent when anything was required of them, and the last-named was unfortunate not to score on two or three occasions. O’Connell shone out well at times, but ho would have done better had ho remained on-side a little more. For the losers it was difficult to single out any player, although Race played well. His try was a good one.
