ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES. Henry Jones, a slaughterman, who lived at 15 Cumberland-place, Wellington, and who has been in Wellington Hospital since the night of September 2, suffering' from injuries received through being knocked down by a motor car, died at 7 o’clock last night,Jones was knocked down, at Ip.fo._p.iu. on September. 2 at the corner, of Cuba and Ghuznee streets and severely injured, suffering from lacerated wounds in the scalp. The. left leg also was fractured. . . . SMOKE j SUFFOCATION. . The inquest' on Nicol Ferguson Cameron, who was found dead in the corridor of the Gresham Hotel during a fire on August, 16, was held to-day at'.Wei* lington. The coroner (Mr M‘Neil), found that deceased died from asphyxi* ation by smoke. • He said there (were ni* apparent causes why .deceased' should not have been able to make a safe escape, as the evidence showed • that there was no obstruction in the passages, and the lire escapes were in perfect condition. He, also said the evidence showed that Cameron was a* heavy smoker, and there seemed to bo no doubt that ho was smoking in his room, and by some means the bed clothes caught , alight; also, on account of the two brandies he had had, ho might not have been normal at the time the alarm was given.—Press Association.
