WEST INDIES HURRICANE
ISLAND OF DOMINICA EXTENT OF THE DAHADE (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, September 9. (Received September 10, at noon.) According to further reports received by the Colonial Office the position at the British island of Dominica, which was struck by the recent West Indian hurricane, is more serious than was at first thought. Six natives have died, and serious damage was done to public buildings, roads, and telephones, etc. Expenditure on immediate relief for the purchase of food and for repairs to buildings has been authorised, and a local subscription list has been opened. Offers of assistance from the Governments of Jamaica and the Windward Islands have been accepted.
