The General Election has been deferred following a political crisis involving President Arosema and his Cabinet, which resigned over a dispute concerning the Minister of Education, who is persona non grata to the other Ministers. The police patrolled the city to-day, guarding the National Assembly building and keeping large crowds moving in order to prevent a surprise attack. ARGENTINE REVOLUTION THE NEW GOVERNMENT. Baldwin, Consul for the Argentine, has received a cable message from the Argentine Government as follows: —“The coup d’etat, led by General Uriburu, with the support of armed forces and tho entire populace of the capital, has brought about as a consequence the resignations of President Irigoyen and Vice-president Martinez. A provisional Government of tho nation has been constituted in tho following form President, Lieuten-ant-General Jose Uriburu; Vice-Pre-sident, Enrique Santamarina; Minister of tho Interior, Matais G. Sanchez Sorondo; Minister of the Exterior, Ernesto Bosh; Minister of Finance, Enrique S. Perez; Minister of Justice, Ernesto Padilla; Minister of Public Works, Octavio Pico; Minister of Agriculture, Horacio B. Varela; Minister of War, General F. Medina; Minister of Marine, Rear-Admiral A. Renard. The armed forces have made no further movement tljan a peaceful march, accompanied by the entire populace, which enthusiastically acclaims the new Government. Order and quiet reign throughout the country.” FIGHTING IN BEUNOS AIRES. MONTEVIDEO, September 9. Despite tho rigid censorship at Buenos Aires on Monday it was learned here early on Tuesday that sanguinary fighting had taken place during Monday evening. Firing broke out at 9 o’clock in various parts of the city, but it is impossible to say exactly what happened. RESULT OF MISUNDERSTANDINGS. NEW YORK, September 9. Private advice from Buenos Aires early on Tuesday said that there had been firing in the city on Monday evening because of misunderstandings, but quiet now prevailed. The political situation is said to bo unchanged. NIGHT OF WILD CONFUSION. A TRAGIC ERROR. BUENOS AIRES, September 9. (Received September 10, at 9.15 a.m.) Irigoyen is ill, and an order has been issued for the arrest of the members of his former Cabinet and supporters in congress. To-day everything was quiet following a night of, wild confusion and shooting among the troops loyal to the Uriburu regime, arising from a tragic error among the soldiers defending the Post Office and Government House. Seven persons were killed and fifty-six wounded during tho confusion. Reports were spread that an Argentine navy squadron of thirteen vessels in Buenos Aires harbour had begun to bombard the capital. Five shrapnel shells were fired by tho light artillery defending Government House in the direction of the harbour, all falling close to the ships of Admiral Storni. One shell exploded on the destroyer Menduza, killing a petty officer. It was said this morning that three or four Post Office clerks had been summarily executed after they had been discovered shooting from behind at the soldiers defending the Post Office. About fifteen persons are being held for summary execution on charges of looting. Tho disastrous effect of the shooting is apparent in the finest quarters of tho city. The Plaza do Mayo, and the space between Government House and the Central Post Office was a shambles, with scarcely a window fronting tho area unbroken. BRITISH INDUSTRIES EXHIBITION. NO OCCASION FOR MISGIVING. RUGBY, September 9. (Received September 10, at noon.) The Argentine Embassy in Loudon has issued the following statement to the Argentine Ambassador: “The recent events in the Argentine will in no way affect the British Industries Exhibition, which is to be held next March in Buenos Aires, and that there is not the slightest occasion for any misgiving as to the change of tho situation having any prejudicial effect on its success.”
