AUSTRALIA'S OVERSEAS TRADE RETURNS FOR JULY. Prom A Mociation—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, September 9. The Australian overseas trade returns for July' reveal that imports (£7, 290,428) were £5,679,508, or 43.7 per cent, less than a year agm The exports were valued at £/,247,/61, whic-i is an increase of £830,113, or 11.4 per cent., on July of last year. The reduction m imports, which only slightly exceeded the exports, is attributed to the revised tariff, high exchanges, and the generally lessened purchasing power of tho community. The imports composed chiefly textiles, £1,527,000; metals and manufactures thereof, £827,000; petrol, £327,000; machinery, £909,000; apparel, £219,000; yarns and manufactured fabrics, £259,000: timber, £129, - 000. The imports of motor bodies dropped from 93,000 to 1,700; and chassis from 598.000 to 161,000. In the exports wool (£2,679,000) shows an increase of £1,151,000. Exports of gold totalled £838,000, compared with £70,000. These were the only notable increases.
