COST OF IMPROVED ESTATES HEW SETTLERS PLACED [Feou Due I’aruamentakt Reportxk.] r WELLINGTON, September 9, The closer settlement purchase operations of the Government are detailed ju a return presented to the House, which shows that £662.964 has been spent m acquiring 64,650 acres, and as a result 182 new settlers have been placed on _ land. Tlio financial details are given as follows:
Possession is being given of the Golden Valley estate in January, and'the Manakau estate is not yet offered for selection. Tapuwai estate is under development by the Lands Department. Particulars are also given of thirteen purchases under the group system on behalf of fifty-five settlers, the prices per acre ranging from £l7 10s to £BO ISs. the latter being Woodlands (Hastings), where the largest group, nine iu number, was placed, TOTAL COSTS.
