LEECH LYRIC CHOIR

On Wednesday, September 17, the Lyric Choir will present for the first concert two works in direct contrast. ‘ The Revenge ’ is a ballad of the fleet by Lord Tennyson, sot to music by Villiers Stahlord. Stanford has set perfect tone picture to one of th most cx traordinary incidents in British history. The melodic themes reflect the spirit and character of our best nautical ditties, whilst tho poem is compelling and breathes the spirit of England. ‘ The Rebel Maid,’ Montague Phillip’s charming opera, is in lighter vein, for fresh ness and charm are strikingly exemplified in this work. The music is jolly and refreshing, and there is not a dull moment. It is the stylo of opera that sends one homo humming the pleasing melodies, which are full of arrest. ' r ' appeal. Mr Leech’s choir musters Ixo \ oiccs. A first-class orchestra supports tho production, which will bo directed by Air John T. Leech. The principals are Miss Valda M‘Curdy, Miss Noni Davidson, Messrs Win. Ruffell, L, Harrison Stubbs, T. D, White, and James Simpson.
