MEETING OF ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE

A meeting of tlie executive of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association was held in the club rooms last night, Mr J. S. Skinner presiding. ; . The President reported having represented the association at the annual reunion of the Dunedin. 1 NaVals, r It was decided that a letter bo forwarded to Commodore G. Blake thanking him for, the lecture he delivered in the club during the Dunedin’s stay in p0rt.,".. ; . Seven .new , members Wore elected, while four transfers inwards were approved. Three resignations were received, and one member was lost by death. .

Thp report of the Social Committee, which was presented by Mr T. S. Anderson,! stated .that, arrangements were well in hand lor the annual “At Home ” to bo held at the end of the month. Details of the function were discussed at some length, and it was finally decided that the final arrangements bo loft in the hands of'., the Social Commit-, tec. , , ■■ ■ •

The Lands, and Publicity Committee recommended the delivery of a series of addresses dealing with the activities of the association in the suburbs. It was hoped by this means to stimulate interest among returned men and to increase the membership. The report also dealt -wifh the War Graves Cemetery at Anderson’s Bay, where a number of cxsoldiers’ graves were still unmarked. T'he committee recommended that the association take the responsibility ot erecting headstones as far as the fund at its disposal would permit.—The report was adopted. The , question of the position of pensioned and unemployed returned soldiers under the Unemployment: Act and the Rehabilitation Commission’s report was discussed at some length in committee. It was filially resolved—“ That this executive meeting, of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association expresses Its strong disapproval of the fact that the putting into operation of the Rehabilitation Commission’s report has been shelved, and that the Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Associations be asked to cooperate in personal attendance at Wellington in. order to stress this matter on the authorities.’’

The Secretary reported that the membership of the Christchurch Association on August 31 was 1,600, made, up as'followsPrevious total, 1,449; renewals, 40; new members, 17. A circular was received from tho New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association advising that tho manufacture of poppies in New Zealand by disabled soldiers bo approved under certain conditions. Auckland and_ Christchurch_ Associations were raainufacturing poppies. —It was. decided that the supply of poppies be obtained from the British Legion through the headquarters of the association.
