WORK OF DUNEDIN ASSOCIATION Last night’s meeting of the comxnittee of tho Manufacturers’ Association was largely attended. Mr W. Kindloy presided. Congratulations to Mr Jeffreys on his election to tho vice-presidency and a welcome to the new members of h.te executive were extended by the Chairman. The nomination of a second vicepresident was left in the hands of the president, Mr Jeffreys, and the secretary. The following members, who had retired from the committee, were thanked for their services;—Messrs C. Baker, R. Cuddie, J. S. Faulkner, W. 11. Hayward, B. H. Nees, T. H. Tompkins, and D. Phillips. Pending the receipt of the publication, consideration was deferred of a recommendation from the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Association for the local association to approve of the issue of a New Zealand Trades Alphabet,' which it was proposed to distribute through tho schools.' It was stated that tlie publication had been issued in Australia for nine years, and that the Wellington and Auckland Associations bad-approved of the proposal. NEW ZEALAND GOODS. Mrs secretary of the Roxburgh Women’s Institute, wrote asking for information regarding the facilities for displaying and advertising Now Zealand goods. Tho President said the letter proved that progress was being made in regard to the use of goods made in New Zealand. It was a sample of a definite thirst for information of the goods which they had to sell. Mr Hogg said the letter was an indication of the desire for New Zealand goods, showing that they had the ball at their feet. He. thought they should take advantage of the suggestion and extend the movement right through Otago and Southland. He suggested the appointment of a committee to de vise ways and means of, dealing with the matter. Mr Somerville suggested that films showing the working of various factories should be exhibited in the country districts. He was also in favour of the appointment of a lecturer. Mr J. Sutherland Ross said he did not see why they should not have a lecturer for a short period. The President said he hoped the matter would come before the Publicity Committee. He understood that Mr Cameron, secretary of the Farmers’ Union, was anxious to co-operate with the association. Tho matter was left in the hands ot the Publicity Committee, consisting of the . president, vice-president,- Messrs Ross, Hogg, and MTndoe. CANCER RESEARCH FUND. A communication from the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association with reference to co-operation in an exhibition of Now Zealand-made goods for the purEof assisting tho cancer, research was left in the hands of individual members. INVERCARGILL INDUSTRIES WEEK, A report on Industries Week in Invercargill was presented by Mr Sheed (the, local representative of the Department of Industries and Commerce), who stated that the proceedings had been a great success. Displays were made in approximately 275 windows by 150 exhibitors. Tho , President said Invercargill seemed to 'have done nobly in bringing before the public the merits of New Zealand-made 1 goods’ Ho was pleased that Dunedin manufacturers had rendered valuable support. Mr Hogg, who delivered an address during .Industries Week, said that In vercafgil! had made a very fine display. Tho window displays and. the lighting of tho town were excellent. There was no doubt that the harid of Mr Sheed was very much in evidence. The wholething was admirably worked, and there was no doubt that the Dunedin Association would receive a certain measure of benefit. from the display The President rend a letter from tbo Southland Chamber of Commerce, stating that tho estim-tpri ri-m.Jt on Industries Week, was about £2O, and asking for a donation towards the expenditure It was agreed to make a donation of GlO 10s and to congratulate the Invercargill people on thoff effort.
