WORK OH HOLIDAYS
BUSY ARBITRATION COURT MR JUSTICE FRAZER ON SCRUPLES Having no religious scruples and having a volume of litigation to judge, the Arbitration Court will work on Dominion Day, September 22. Mr Justice Frazer waxed humorous to-day on the observance of the holiday when the court was making fixtures for the present session. After the court had made several fixtures for September 22 Mr A. N. Haggitt pointed out that that date was Dominion Day. Mr Justice Frazer: T am afraid we have not the time to take the holiday. It is not a holiday which everybody observes religiously. Mr Haggitt; It is a legal holiday. His Honour: I am afraid wo will have to break the law, as we have not the time. Wo observe Labour Day religiously, of course. (Laughter.) When an industrial fixture was later being made His Honour asked Mr J. Robinson (for the union) if ho had any religious scruples about working on Dominion Day. Mr Robinson had no scruples, and the fixture was made. “ You people who have uneasy con sciences about Dominion Day can now have September 21,” said His Honour, with a smile, to the barristers seated in the court. Mr J. 11. Callan (jokingly); Am I to associate myself with that ? The President: If the cap fits, Mr Callan. (Laughter.) The final shot was mado by Mr Callan, who jocularly informed the court that ho would “ take the cap.”
