OLD BOYS' CLUB
Tho annual meeting of tho Otago Boys’ High School Old Boys’ Club was held last evening, tho president (Mr J. J. Mallard) occupying tho chair. In commenting on the annual report the Chairman said that lie thought the success of tho club had not been so great during tho past season owing to the lack of practice. Members would no doubt find the Caledonian Ground of greater advantage to thorn than Logan Park, where the wickets were not all they might bo, while tho tram
service was at times most inadequate. Ho appealed to all members to do their utmost to increase the club’s membership. Trophies won during tbo season wore as follow:—Mr J. J. • Mallard’s bat for most promising player in second grade A, J. B. Clarke; Mr W. Strang’s bat for most consistent batsman in first grade, A. Gale, Mr W. 11. Brinsley’s bat for best shaping batsman in second grajdd B. E. Hayes ;',Mr A- P- Alloo’s bat’for most promising, bowler in second grade B, A Anderson. Smith; selector, Mr G . R. Dickinson; delegates to Hie O.C. A.—Messrs W R. Brinsley. A. P. Ailoo, and G. R. Dickinson: committee—Messrs A; \V. Ailoo. H. E. Harraway, D. Moloney, M’Rae. V. Leader; Coaching Committee—Messrs V, Leader, A. P. Ailoo, \V. R. Brinsley, sen., H. E, .Harraway, L. Gilesi N. ChefFy;; auditor, Mr L. Johnston. Mr A. P. Ailoo brought forward the question of the club playing a match at Christchurch against a High School team or a team from Christ College.— The matter was left in the hands of the committee to arrange a match with Christchurch High School some time before Christmas. . . The date for’ the . opening day was left for the committee to decide. Three cheers wore given Messrs J. J. Mallard and E. E.. Webster for the interest they had displayed: in the club’s activities during the year. SOUTH. 1 OF ENGLAND V. H.G.C. i LONDON, September 9. (Received September 10, at 10 a.m.) South of England in their second innings scored 217 (Moore not out 101; Hearno live for 95). M.C.C. in their innings made- 134' (Freeman four for 54, Robins four for 38). South of England won by 7G runs. The match between Lord Hawke’s eleven and tbo M.C.C. tciim far South Africa was abandoned Trig to rain.
