DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB

The Dunedin Defence Rifle Club held its forty-second annual general meeting in tho Y.M.C.A, rooms. There was a good attendance of members. The president (Mr \V. Bannerman) was in the chair The annual report and the treasurer’s statement were adopted. They showed the club to have had a successful season. The club championship was won by Deputy-president J. T. Gillan,- Rifleman \V. A. Graham being runner-up. Matches were shot with tho Kaitangata and Goodwood Defence Rifle Clubs, resulting in favqin of the club by narrow margins. The club was represented at the Rifle Association’s meetings held at Trentham, Invercargill, and Dunedin.

Th following office-bearers were elected:—Honorary president. Mr A. J Shaw: honorary vice-president, Captain G. C. Proudfoot; president, Mr W. Bannerman; deputy-president, Mr J. T. Gillan; honorary treasurer, Mr R. M. Grcenslade; honorary secretary. Mr J. L Benfeli; committee—president, dcjvuty-president, lion, treasurer, lion, secretary, and Riflemen A. W. Cooper, J. Bain, and 11. Mackic; Shooting Committee—the president, deputypresident, hon. secretary, and Riflemen H. Potter, J. Pemberton, J. M'Knight, and R. J. M'Gill.

Several new members were elected, ft was decided to open the season on Saturday, the 20th mst., with a match between sides chosen on the range by the president and deputy-president. The majority of the club’s competitions this season will bo shot on the lower range at Pelichet flay. The club is indebted to the following members for prizes presented during the past season ■ — Mr A. J. Shaw, Captain G. Proudfoot, Messrs W. Bannennan, R. M. Greonslade, A. W. Ccoiper, J. T. Gillan, O. G. Miller, J. Kay, J. N. Stewart, J. M'Knight, H. C. Jones, W. facer, and H. Potter. The club is also indebted to the Defence Department for the use of range and targets, and to the Press for reports of meetings and competitions.
