CORRESPONDENCE

UNEMPLOYMENT BILL.

TO TH3 EDITOR In answer to your correspondent, M. Andrew, 1 am not looking for notoriety. 1, unfortunately, have been connected with the Labour Party for many years, hut not being of the sterner sex, I do not wish to draw swords publicly with them. My letter was only intended to check them at this juncture when, like myself, all classes of the community are helping to alleviate tho distress now existing, but they cannot be expected to continue when such insinuations are made as that the workers are taking all they can get, or a littlo of their own back—meaning, of course, that the robbed arc taking some of it hack. The big man is not in the squabble, so leave him out of it. Boiled down, is the worker who is employed willing to help his less fortunate brothers by a payment of 7sd a week? Please inquire what the salary of the Labour officials is and report. I know 1 have not been dreaming about workers being encouraged not to pay rent, as I know one worker who is alleged to be tho owner of houses and who has owing to him for rent over £IOO in less than a year. He has to carry those people on his back for shelter, which is as necessary as sustenance, and while they are getting food and clothing and firing they are told not to pay the landlord. They are not doing bad! Joking aside, is it not silly to have a lot ol distributing offices instead of one.—l am, etc., Sympathiser. September 10.
