Eli Granger' (Eubien : Littlefield)_ sells his chain of stores for three millions cash and a _ million in stock. Horace Divine (William Collier, sen.) comes to Freemont to close ‘the leal. -■- Divine' politely invites; Granger to visit him any time he-is east. Granger tells Pearl (Joyce Comptom), Eddie (Charles Farrell), I and Mrs Granger (Louise Fazenda) the good news. They go east and buy a home—next door to the Divines. Mrs Divine, (Hetfda>Hopper) is scandalised by the 1 : to.beTriendly; Eleanor" (JaiK#Gaynbr),! their prettygirl, makes Eddie’s acquaintance as he' strums his ukelele under a hedge, and the/"-become friends. Eleanor. is to’ 'marry Count Prunier (Gregory Gaye), but Eddie declines to take the count seriously. The Grangers drop in, but are snubbed, but Ecgiie and Eleanor soon are in love, and Mrs Granger insists upon inviting the Divines * > dinner, The count arrives _ and gives Eleanor an engagement ring. Eddie feels it badly, and tells her of his love, but they can see no way out _of dt. When the Divines aro to dine with the Grangers, Mrs Divine sends regrets; saying that Mr Divine is sick.’ Granger marches over, and seeing Divine at dinner, ho walks in and scandalises them. He then announces a plan to fight the Divines in business. Eddie declines and accepts 100,000dol of the estate, the father thinking that this is a boyish whim, and gives him the money -in Consolidated Stock. The count, whose engagement to Eleanor is to be announced’ that afternoon, meets Eddie, and thej become drunk .together—a plan of Eddie’s to keep the count from the announcement party; Eddie and Eleanor, elope, the latter leaving a cryptic note for her mother, who. happily’ thinks Eleanor has fled .with the count. Granger meanwhile sends a wire,,to, Iliyiuq. saying that 119 ...has .cornered..oyer. 50 per. cei-.t. jq£, Consolidated, ’ and that Divine had better come to him or suffer the consequences. Divine lushes angrily in, and Granger informs him that with' Eddie’s stock voting his way, he controls 51 per cent. The story then works up to an excellent climax.
