RETURNED SOLDIERS’ CHOIR

The Returned Soldiers’ Choir will present tho first programme of the 1930 season in the New Town Hall Concert Chamber on Wednesday next. Foremost in a choice selection will be * King Olaf’s Christmas,’ a cantata of surpassing interest. The musical setting by Dudley Buck invests a poetic narrative of one of the most extraordinary incidents in' tho history of Norway with melodic. phrases and fundamental themes, reflecting the spirit and character of this stirring choral ballad. The accompaniment to the cantata fully meetp the essential demands of the situation, and this, in the hands of Charles A. Martin, is an inspiration. Mr 1? S. Anderson will sing the King Oiaf part, and Gcorgo Crawford, Walfrcd. The ■ supporting choral numbers aro varied and interesting. . Tho choir will have the support of Miss Mary Pratt. This will, bo tho contralto’s first appearance on the returned soldiers’ platform, and her contributions will be added interest. Miss Eva Judd will play two violin solos. Tho choir soloists are Messrs Fred Haig, Mr Harry Guyton, Messrs John Leech and W. N. Sitterthwaite will sing a duet. The concert will bo directed by Mr John Leech, with Mr Charles A. Martin as pianist. Tho box plan is open as advertised.
