Leave of , absence from his official duties has been granted.to the Mayor of Wellington (Mr G. A. Troup) to enable him to take a sea trip for the benefit of his health. A Wellington message states that information lias been received by the Dairy Board of the death in England of Mr. Janies Dykes, formerly of Wellington, who has been m the employ of the New Zealand Dairy Board in England since tho Wembley Exhibition. At the annual meeting of the Gaelic Society, held fast evening, Air Roderick Mackenzie was elected chief and Messrs T. Ritchie, J. S. M Peak, K. M'Lean, A. M‘Laehlan, and A, A. Campbell chieftains for the coming year. . ~. . Though Sir Robert Stout is obliged to keep to Ids residence fit Wellington, under medical treatment, he is not prostrated, but mentally alert and able between whiles to discuss current events with old friends who occasionally are allowed to see him. This statement, on, the authority of a recent caller, will be consoling to Sir'Robert's countless friends. ... Superintendent William Keith, of tbs Hastings Fire Brigade, is retiring after forty years’ service, and Deputy Robert Henderson has been promoted to superintendent (says a Press Association telegram). , “ That the board places ou record it* high appreciation of tho practical and unstinted service rendered by the late Mr William Wilkinson for a continuous term of twenty-one years when a member of the Otago Harbour Board, and to the .public generally, and desires to express its sympathy with his family, in their sad and irreparable loss,” wa* a motion carried by the Harbour Board last night on the motion of Mr H. E. Moller. The Revs. G. N. Lack and H. S.Conway, officers of the China Inland Mission, arrived in Dunedin yesterday afternoon. It is their intention to give lectures in the interests of the mission concerning the forward movement campaign for 200 missionaries. Mr F. H. Lampen left this morning for a visit to Wellington.
Tlve Mayor of Dunedin (Mr R. S.' Black) went by the through express to Lyttelton to-day, and. will be in Wellington to-morrow for a meeting of tho executive of the Municipal Association. His Worship expects to he back by Monday. ‘Mr R. Duthic was a passenger for Wellington by fbe 11.51 train to-day,-Mr lan Gleudining, son of the late Mr .John Glendining, left to-day by the * through express to embark for England. Ho proposes to spend a year at Bradford and other centres to gain experience in wool buying. Messrs L. S. Dyer (Alosgiel) and W. Gray (AVallacetown) went off this morning for Wellington to join the Ulimaroa and link up with the party of New Zealand fanners in a tour of Britain and the Continent.
