DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE.

A much brighter tone was noticeable on the Exchange this morning. Quotations were more numerous than usual, while Government Bonds and Stock (which have been neglected by buyers for some time' past) came in for good inquiry. Bank of Now Zealands improved to buyers at 57s and sellers at 57s 6d. Union Banks were wanted at £l2, with sellers at £l2 ,3s. Buyers were prepared to give 14s Id for - National Insurance, but sellers-required 3d more. N.Z. Refrigerating shares improvedslightly, and there was a buyer of Mosgiel Woollens at £6 15s. N.Z. Breweries could have been sold at 80s 9d, but the lowest seller was 81s 6d. Buyers predominated in the War Bonds section, there being sellers of tax-free stock only. Sales Reported. N.Z. FRUIT AND PRODUCE

Bray Bros., Ltd. (Dunedin), report us follows for week ended to-day: Tho chaff market is very quiet. Sales are difficult to make/and best quality has been selling at £5 10s to £6, sacks extra, ex truck. There is a fair quantity of chaff offering from the surrounding districts. During the week the market lor oats eased. There is no demand from the North Island merchants. Threshing has now commenced, and the yield promises to be good. Values to farmers arc ruling round about 3s 3d, sacks extra, on trucks, for A grade, and Js 9d for B grade. _ The wheat market it steady, threshing of early sown wheat has now commenced in some parts of the district. The market conditions are unaltered. Millers are not purchasing to any extent. Prices are considered to be high, and no advance on the present price can be expected. The present price rules at 5s 9d, sacks extra, on trucks, for Tuscan; 6s for Hunters; and 6s 3d for Velvet. The fowl wheat market is steady. At present stocks are short in Dunedin. Up to 6s 6d is obtained for good quality. Millers’ prices are as follow:—Flour, 200’s £l6 15s, 100’s £l7 15s, 50’s £lB, ,25’s £lB 10s. Bran, £7 10s. Pollard, £9. Oatmeal, 25’s £25 10s, 200’s £24 10s. The potato market is easing. I air quantities are coming forward, and best lines are selling up to £6 per ton. A fair amount of blight is developing m some of the early potatoes, and these have to be farced on to the market. Everything points to tho market keeping steady. The onion market lias eased. Large quantities have come forward from Canterbury, and prices are now too low for the grower. Best quality is offering on the market at 7s per cwt. The quotation from Canterbury is £i to £4 10s per ton, on trucks. The egg market it steady. All lines coming forward are readily _ placed. New season’s honey is, now offering, and some fine samples have come forward. It is reported that crops are not up, to the usual, and the price may firm. Haras and bacon are in good supply, and the market steady. Cheese is offering freely, and prices moderate. There is a demand for old matured cheese. Dairy pat butter is inquired for. ' Business in the fruit marts lias eased off. Stone fruit is not now so plentiful. Some fine samples pf plums, peaches, and apricots are still offering. Raspberries are still offering, and tho price has advanced. Blackberries arc now coming on tho market. A shipment of Samoan bananas came on to the market, and these were readily taken up by the retailers. Prices ,were high, and the bananas arrived in very fair condition. Apples are offering more freely, and some_ fine samples of Cox Orange are coming forward. These are meeting with ready sales. Crops are reported to he better than usual, and large quantities will bo expected. Oranges are short supply. Lemons are in good supply. Vegetables are offering freely, and prices low. Tomatoes have finned up in price this last day or two, and supplies are bn the short side. There is a fair demand for 'all good quality fruit and vegetables, and the
