PIGEON FLYING
The Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club opened. its young bird racing season with a race from Oamaru, an i airline distance ot 59 miles. Seventy-four birds were liberated at noon by the station master in fine_ weather. Visibility being good, the birds at once broke for home, the winner covering the distance in 883 rain. The' five places were filled as follows (velocities in yards per minute) ; W- Hargraves’ Alfwood (1,164.8) 1, F. Jones’s Quickstep (1.150.3) 2, A. Stevenson’s Bon Scot (1.149.3) 3, G. Contts’s Lady Lu (1.140) 4, H. Millard’s Wingo (1,112.6) 3. Birds were also entered by C. Conley, C. Gore, J. Hardgrave, J. Lynn, R. Parker, and C. Huston.
