Mr and Mrs M'Creath (Gore) are visitors to Dunedin. * Mrs Cowpcr has returned to her homo in Christchurch. Ur and Mrs Stanley Batchelor left on Friday morning for England. Mrs L. Hudson and Mrs J. Trengrove left on Friday’for Milford Sound. Mrs Anfrero Fenwick, accompanied by Miss Norrio Fenwick, left on Friday morning for England.

Mrs R. Hudson and Mrs J. W. Smeatou left this morning on a trip to Auckland.

Miss Corccn Ogston, daughter of tho lato Dr Frank Ogston, left Dunedin on Friday on her return journey to England.

Professor Strong and Mrs Berkncr (United States) returned on Wednesday frftm a most enjoyable tour of the Southern Lakes.

Miss Vida Barron returned on Thursday from a trip to Great Britain and the Continent, where she has boon studying French at the Sor Bonne.

Mr and Mrs W. H. Rose (Christchurch) are visiting Dunedin in connection with tho forthcoming meetings of the Presbyterian Assembly and tho P.W.M.U.

Mrs Thomas N'isbet was “at homo' 1 on Thursday and Friday afternoons at the Otago Women’s Club to her many friends prior to‘ her leaving Dunedin on Tuesday for Australia. Mrs Rucker, wife of one of the Paramount camera men, who is with Commander Byrd, arrived on Thursday, and is a guest at tho Grand Hotel, waiting the arrival of her husband.

Mrs Do Ganahl and her small son (New York), wife of Mr Joseph Do Ganahl, second mate on the City of ■New York, and Mrs MTvinlay, wife of •Captain M'Kinlay who accompanied Commander Byrd to tho Pole, are the guesps of Mr H. L. Taplcy during their stay jn Dunedin. On Thursday afternoon Mrs Benson gave a!. party at the Otago Women’s Club for Mias Cadbury. The guests were Mrte Cleghorn, Misses Muriel May, Vida Sheddan, Bell, Aslin, Woods, and Dr Mari oil Whyte.

The staff and students of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association held their annual picnic at Whare Flat on Tuesday last. It was'a delightful afternoon, and the motor drive proved very enjoyable. Afternoon tea on the hanks of the Silvorstream was a very jolly affair as the twenty-two girls gathered round the camp fire.

Mrs Cadbury and tho Misses Cadbury, who are visiting hero from England, have been seeing as much as possible of tho city in the short time at their disposal. On Thursday they were motored round tho hills in the morning, and Miss Cadbury, who is a graduate of Newnham College, Cambridge, visited the University in tho afternoon on Friday, the Richard Hudson Memorial kindergarten was visited by the party, who are all keenly interested ■in child welfare work.

The Grammar School Hall. Silver road, Epsom, Auckland, on a recent cveniim was the scene ot an enthusiastic gathering oi' members and friends of the Old Girls’ Association, who met together to welcome the new head mistress, Miss London, The guest of the evening was received by Miss MargaretChaplin,- president of the association, and on her arrival in tho hall was presented with a bouquet by Miss 1. Park, vice-president. A hearty welcome was extended to the new head mistress on behalf of all'old girls of the sell ml by tho president, who made reference to Miss London’s line qualities and to her previous records, both m the sen ; astic world and in tho sports field. In reply, Miss London made a happy little speech, in which she mentioned the strong ties of fellowship which it is possible ‘for an old girls’ association to form, maintain, and strengthen. She anticipated pleasant dealings with tho .Epsom Old Girls’ Association.

At a meeting of tho General Committee of the Otago branch of the Obstetrical Endowment Fund appeal in tho Otago Women’s Club on Thursday it was decided to hold a garden party on March Id in Lady Ferguson’s beautiful grounds at “ Wychwood.” Tho gardens are at their best, and granted fine weather tho function should bo a very enjoyable one. The resignation of Dliss Gcerin as honorary secretary of the committee, owing to ill-health, was received with regret, and Mrs Marshall Macdonald was appointed in her stead Everything is in train for the appeal, which is to be made during March. Dir H. J. Guthrie (president of the Rotary Club of Dunedin), accompanied by Dirs Guthrie, leave Dunedin on Monday to attend the Pan-Pacific Rotary Conference and tho Australian District Conference, both of which are to bo held in Sydney from March 18 to 21 (inclusive). On their return to New Zealand Dir and Dlrs Guthrie will attend the New Zealand Rotary Conference, which this year is being held on April 3,4, and sat the Chateau, Tongariro National Park.

A coster ball, under the auspices of tho Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association, is to be held in the new Town Hall on April Ist. The idea is unique in Dunedin, and promises to be very successful. A most enthusiastic committee is in charge, with Dlrs Richard Hutton as convener. Tickets are available both lor dancers and lor onlookers in the galleries. Mr Large and his Savoy Orchestra will supply the music, and there wilt be interesting items between dances by Dliss Vivienne Lamb and Mr Coburn, who were so successful in ‘ Our Miss Gibbs.’ Also by Dlrs Leslie Dlills and a bevy of girls.

A very pleasant evening was held on Tuesday last at the homo of the Misses Cleminson, Sawyers Bay, when about forty ladies and gentlemen were present to meet, the Rev. George West, who is at homo on furlough from tho mission field of Dlelanesia. The Rev. W. H. Roberts opened the meeting with prayer, and then introduced Dir I Vest, who gavo a very interesting account of his work on Santa Cruz and Reef Islands. Dlrs Hudson and Dliss Throp sang several songs. After supper had been served social chat was indulged in for an hour.

The annual festival of the • Mothers’ Union was attended by about 200 members, all the Dunedin branches being well represented, as well as the parishes of Gore, Tapaiiui, Dlosgicl, Port Chalmers, and Green Island. After an impressive service in tho cathedral, the members adjourned to “ Lis Escop,” Bishop Richards’s residence, where luncheon was served under tho trees in the charming garden. Croquet and other games were played by the visitors. The weather was warm and calm, and a very pleasant afternoon was spent. After afternoon tea tho Rev. W 11. Roberts, of Port Chalmers. on behalf of tho visitors, warmly thanked the Bishop and Dlrs and Dliss Richards for their kindness. The opportunity was taken to say good-bye to tho diocesan secretary, Dlrs Falconer, who leaves in April for England.

A pleasant social evcii'iug was spent in the St. Leonards Presbyterian Sunday School hall on Monday evening, when tbe teachers and scholars met to bid farewell to Miss Katrena Bardsley in view of her approaching marriage. Tho Rev. Mi- Cairney, in presenting Miss Bardsley with a handsomely bound volume of ‘ Tho World’s Greatest Books,’ spoke appreciatively of tho six years of untiring labour Miss Bardsley bad given to the school, and said ho was sure her work would not easily bo forgotten. Miss Bardsley, in replying, thanked tho teachers and scholars for their gift, which she would value very much. She did not . need it to remind her of the happy years spent with them, for her work had given her outstanding pleasure. She hoped the children would try to remember the teaching they received Sunday by Sunday, ami realise it was for their benefit that tho teachers gave up their time. Mi ss Bardsley bid each scholar a personal good-bye.
