When Mme Morris’s case was opened the Sporting Federation was represented by two women , lawyers. Mme Morris’s male counsel turned to the women advocates and declared: “You women are in the forefront ol women’s progress and in favour ol women’s rights. Therefore you should favour women wearing trousers.’ ’ The women advocates smiled and ■hook their heads. They urged in turn that it was unnecessary to adopt masculine costume in sport. Furthermore, Mm© Morris’s striking personality might influence other sporting girls in the federation to wear trousers. [Mme Morris was expelled from the Sporting Federation for wearing trousers at sports meetings.]
