A SUCCESSFUL SUMMER MEETING ■Through rain threatened in the Gore district, “and fell elsewhere m Southland yesterday morning, there was .no rain on the racecourse, but a very searching wind was responsible tor a big drop in the temperature, and it was not a pleasant day for racing. As a consequence the gate receipts were down as compared to the second day s takings last year, the: figures being £l93' 12s Cd as compared against A-iU 17s 6d. The figures for the meeting are £555 this year,. as compared with £SO” Is fid. The totahsntor investments totalled £10,591, as against £9,3021 on the second day last year, and made £2-1,945 for the meeting, an increase of £5,889 on last year s turn°'Mr MTvor’s starting was good, and the racing one of the best afternoon s sport seen on this course for many years.
