Of sixtv-eipht entrants fifty-tour took part "in the race, which was nm in brilliant sunshine over tar-sealed roads with a slight southerly breeze. Riders from clubs throughout the do minion contested the race. N- lb sht, Haw. and Bocock led at Llthanr thirty-five miles from the finish—with the winner, Roberts, seveu minutes behind, and Watson and M Cann 16min further back. At Stratford Haw, Sole, Bocock and Claffey were m front. Haw, Sole, and Roberts was the order at Inglewopd, . vvith 1-inin to go, Roberts being ‘2mm behind the other two. Roberts joined the leaders over the last tew- miles, and one of the best finishes- !6r yeais ensued. Anv one of the three might have won, it seemed, until the last 20yds, \vheit.. Haw drifted slightly, Roberts beatinp Sole bv a length, with Haw two lengths away third, followed by Bocock; Wat son, and M‘Cann. The two last-named had a great struggle for the fastest time, Watson winning by half , a wheel. Roberts’s time was 4h 46mm 3JJsec. The first ten men were: L. Roberts (New Plymouth, 24mm), G.
