LABOUR DAY SPORTS
FIXTURE AT CALEDONIAN GROUNDS THE MORNING'S PROGRAMME In place of the usual Labour Day picnic at Evansdale the Otago Labour Day Association tried a new venture this year in the form of a sports feathering at the Caledonian Ground to-dav. The fixture was staged with the co-operation of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur athletic Association (which had charge of the athletic programme), the Dunedin Whippet Racing Club (which controlled the whippet races), and the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Piping and Dancing Association (which staged the piping "and dancing events). The bright sunshine this morning attracted a" larore crowd to the Caledonian Ground! which was much augmented in the afternoon, «hen the athletic and whippet events were decided. This morning a programme of children's races was run off, large fields being the order Highland enuring and piping events drew good en trie.-?, and th« babv show also created a gicat deal of interest. The various sub' snows. arranged bv the Association, cud good business, and altogether meeting promises to be most successful.
