JOHN M'GLASHAN COLLEGE

BOARD OF GOVERNORS The Board of Governors of the John M'Glashan College met in First Church Hall on Tuesday evening. There were present Mr T. C. Ross (in the chair), the Revs. J. J. Cairney, J. Kilpatrick, A. C. W. Standage, Dr E. N. Merringtou, Professor T. D. Adams, Messrs J. M'George, A. M. Cameron, J. Russell, Somerville, and the principal. An apology was received from Mr James Ucgg. The Secretary reported that she had received from the trustees of the estate of the late Miss Margaret A. C. M‘Glashan the discharge of the £2,000' on loan to the college, and bonds amounting to £SOO left by her in her will to found a scholarship. Mr Ross reported that specifications for the playing shed had been prepared, and work would shortly be commenced. The bricks were being provided by Mr M'Skimming, and another warm friend of the college had given a handsome donation towards the cost of erection. The Principal reported that the work of draining the cricket ground was now completed. The old drain, which was inadequate, _ had been taken up, and a good 9in pipe has been put down in its place. Agricultural drains had been laid in other parts,' and there should be no further trouble about water. A good grass turf pitch had been put down, and a practice wicket prepared. The ploughing and topdressing of the western side of the ground had still to be done, and when the work was completed the college would possess a first-class ground. Authority was granted to the principal to order the necessary equipment for the teaching of biology. The Principal reported that the annual shoot was held at the Pclichet Bay range last Saturdaj', when the M'Glashan Shield was won by C. G. 13©gg, and the Lady Godley Cups were awarded to J. C. White (senior) anti P. L. Ballard (junior). The School Debating Society on October 5 held a joint debate with the Otago' Boys’ High School, and on Saturday, October 12. the Maori Hill Church office-bearers and their -wives entertained the hoarders at a social in the Coronation Hall.

It was stated that an ex-pupil of the school had presented the library with ‘ The Life and Diaries of FieldMarshal Sir Henry Wilson.’
