“DOWN WITH FASCISM!”
OUTRAGE IN BRUSSELS ITALIAN EMBASSY ATTACKED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. BRUSSELS, October 19. A sensation was caused by the firing of shots in the direction of the Italian Embassy this evening. Stones were hurled at the building, several falling in the room where the Ambassador was sitting. Crowds rushed to the scene, and, during the excitement, several men tried to gain access to the Embassy, and the police had to- discharge their revolvers over the heads of the people in order to clear the approaches, which are now heavily guarded. The ‘ Daily Chronicle’s ’ correspondent states that the outrage is believed to be connected with tho protestagainst tho forthcoming official announcement of the engagement of the Italian Crown Prince to the Belgian Princess. Several suspects have been detained. A later message states that tho attackers shouted “ Down with Italy. Down with Fascism.” It is now believed that the demonstration was against the execution of Gortan at Pola.—Australian Press Association. REGRET EXPRESSED. BRUSSELS, October 20.
