RIFLE SHOOTING
KIWI CLUB The Kiwi Defence Rifle _ Club commenced the championship series by firing the first competition of No. 1 match on Saturday afternoon for prizes presented by. Sir James Allen. There was a large attendance, and the fine weather resulted in soma good shooting. Rifleman A. Baker was top scorer at 300yds with 44. Mr H. L. Paterson (a visitor from the Returned Soldiers’ Association! showed his prowess with the rifle by. also scoring 44. At 500yds Rifleman W. Mills (A grade) and Rifleman H Stinson (B grade) each scored 47, which was an excellent shoot. _ Conditions: Ten shots and two optional sighters at 300 and 500yds. Scores: —
KAITAHGATA CLUB 0 The Kaifcangata Defence Club fired the first stage of the Cooke Cup competition on Saturday, a fair number being on the range. Shooting conditions were good with a clear light and strong breeze, which varied from “ dead in ” to about Sdeg right. W. Oliver was top scorer at 300yds with 45, and shared the honour with J. H Frazer at 500yds with 47, also getting a lead of two points for the championship in the first shoot. Next Saturday the conditions will be seven shots at 500yds and 600yds in the first shoot of the Leo Cup first competition, which will be a practice for the team which will visit Dunedin on Labour Day. The ladies fired the first stage of their cup match, Miss Blackie topping the score with 62 out of 70. Tho following arc the scores: —Miss Blackie, 62 —2 —64; Miss Bloxam, 59—5—64; Mrs Clarkson, 61—2—63; Miss Carson, 551—56; Mrs Hawke, 533 —56; Miss Carrey, 51 —5 —56; Miss Townley, 41—-10—51.
